2nd Grade Chess
Hello Parents,
If your child knows how to play chess, or has a strong interest in learning, then encourage him/her to sign up for UIL Chess Tryouts.
Tryouts will be after school on Tuesday, October 4th. We will finish by 3:45, so please be prepared to pick up your child at that time.
Attached are links to websites that offer practice games and worksheets. I encourage your child to practice playing prior to tryouts.
Four students will be chosen for the Chess team. Students who are chosen for the team will have practice every Tuesday after school until 3:45. Students will need to be picked up after practice. After school practice will begin in October and continue until mid January. Students will also need to practice playing chess at home as well.
As we near the competition in January, three students will be chosen to compete and one student will be our designated alternate.
I look forward to Tuesday, October 4th, and playing chess with these students!
Thank You,
April Allen
